Geneva’s music education track will equip you to work with students from kindergarten to twelfth grade, in both choral/vocal and instrument

School Music Methods

Find new way to engage with kids in elementary through secondary school as they study music

Instrumental Methods

With an emphasis on teaching young learners, this class explores methods to teach guitar, piano, strings, percussion, brass, woodwind, and voice

Get into the elementary and secondary school classroom with a pre-service, field experience semester

Learn the fundamentals of music as you study music history, world and popular music, and essential skills

Students who graduate from Geneva College with a degree in music education will:

  1. perform music with expressiveness, excellence, breadth, and stylistic integrity
  2. perceive, understand, value, and critically respond to a variety of historical and current musical works in Western and other cultures
  3. think critically and communicate clearly about theoretical, aesthetic, ethical, social, economic, and philosophical issues in music, relating these to a Christian worldview
  4. lead others in the appropriate enjoyment and performance of music
  5. perform in student recitals, performance boards, and ensemble concerts each semester
  6. understand the content knowledge of the various disciplines, plans meaningful instruction to meet the diverse needs of the students
  7. know and apply theories of learning and development to create a learning environment that will accommodate a diverse student population
  8. understand and use appropriate instructional strategies and effective communication supported by technology to foster critical thinking and collaboration in the classroom
  9. develop reflective professional practices based upon current educational research to improve opportunities for student learning
  10. identify and analyze educational processes and issues from a Christian perspective

Pennsylvania is a member of NASDTEC the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification.  This membership assists in clarification of reciprocity from one state to another. Geneva’s Education program meets Pennsylvania’s educational requirements for licensure. Once Pennsylvania licensure is earned, then the PA license can be evaluated by the other state.
